With it came new ways of thinking which revolutionized the marketplace of ideas. Its messages of love and forgiveness, equality before God, and individual worth shattered the hierarchical shame-or-honor structure of the ancient world. Ethical ideas that flowed from this - such as forgiving one’s enemies,  protecting the weak and even sexual consent - were all new concepts. Today,  the idea of inalienable human rights or even seeing volunteer work as valuable is so deeply embedded in us that we may not even realize where they come from.
